Closing the Gap
Part three of this four-part series, Ben Askren and Matt Dernlan breakdown Kyle Dake vs Alex Dieringer. These two will not be wrestling at Final X Rutgers. On Tuesday, 2018 World Champion Dake requested a delayed wrestle-off due to an injury he suffered that will require surgery. The wrestle-off date has not been announced or made public yet. When they do meet, although Dake has been the victor every other time that doesn’t take away from how competitive this match will be. Askren believes one thing that has allowed Dieringer to close the gap between himself and Dake is getting bigger and stronger. In the most recent matches between these two Dieringer is not getting pushed around by Dake.
Enforce Your Will
Dernlan speaks to Dake’s ability to dictate the entirety of the match. Whichever strategy his opponent wants to attempt he can match. If a wrestler wants to make it tough he’s ready to go there, He can match anyone’s athleticism, and you won’t beat him by trying to get in his mind or get him to give up mentally. Not only is Dake phenomenal at controlling the center of the mat he’s one of the best push out wrestlers in the world. Dernlan also mentions a potential strategy for Dake would be to try and score early. This way Dieringer is forced to be more aggressive and Dake is the most comfortable with his counter offense and defense.
