This week, Cary Kolat breaks down the importance of having mental strength and being able to run into the unknown as an athlete. He uses an example from an athlete he had coached that went abroad and was unable to access a treadmill until returning to the U.S., and when he stepped back on the treadmill, his performance had improved. Kolat explains that this happens often in athletes because they struggle to perform when they are in the unknown, but when they tackle tasks that they have already done and accomplished the mental barriers that they can set for themselves are actually removed and enable them to perform at their best.
