Three RUDIS Athletes set to Compete at the Bill Farrell Open in Cedar Falls, IA

CEDAR FALLS, IA- RUDIS athletes Emily Shilson, Dean Heil, and Myles Martin are expected to compete April 1-2 at the annual Bill Farrell International Open at 50kg, 65kg, and 86kg respectively. Each will be trying to secure their spot in the 2022 World Team Trials challenge tournament by winning their weight class. Traditionally held in New York, this year’s Bill Farrell Memorial is being held in the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

EMILY SHILSON

Emily Shilson, Minnesota native and Cadet, Junior, and U23 world champion will take the mat for the first time since the RUDIS Super Match where she fell 2-2 on criteria to veteran Erin Golston. Shilson will look to bounce back against the Farrell field; she’s already qualified for the World Team Trials by way of being a 2021 Junior World Champion. Emily will look to improve her tournament seed by winning here in Iowa.

MYLES MARTIN

2020 U.S. Nationals runner-up Myles Martin will compete at the 86kg weight class where he has been an annual tough-draw since entering the senior freestyle scene in 2019. In his last Bill Farrell outing, Martin was a runner up, losing to CKWC’s Alex Dieringer in the finals. He’ll look to improve on that finish for a shot at this year’s World Team Trials in May.

DEAN HEIL

Finally, two-time NCAA Champion Dean Heil will be wrestling at 65kg. Heil qualified for the 2019 World Team Trials in Raleigh, NC with a win over the 2021 Olympic Trials runner-up, Joey Mckenna. This will be Heil’s first competition since the 2021 World Team Trials.

Best of luck to our Team RUDIS athletes!
